Autism Awareness Month

Autism Awareness Month is more than just a date on a calendar for us – it's personal. As a mum of three amazing kids on the autism spectrum, this is a cause close to my heart, and I want our wonderful platform to help spread awareness and understanding.

Autism Awareness Month is a time to celebrate, learn, and unleash your creative side! Whether you have family or friends with autism or you're keen to show your support, this month is a time to come together and celebrate our individuality.

But first… what is autism?

Autism, or autism spectrum disorder (ASD), is a developmental condition that affects how a person communicates with and relates to other people. At the heart of autism are unique perspectives, talents, and challenges that bring depth to our lives and increase our awareness.

Autism is not an illness or disease; it just means the brain works differently, making people that little bit extra unique, something we should all celebrate!

Do you know why we celebrate Autism Awareness Month?

Designed to support people in the autistic community, Autism Awareness Month is all about raising awareness, promoting acceptance, and celebrating the people in your lives.

After almost 50 years since the first Autism Awareness Month, did you know that autism has become the fastest-growing diagnosis in the world?! This is a big step forward, with the diagnosis rate of children rising from 1 in 2000 in the 1970s to 1 in 68 today!

This is definitely something to be proud of, but there’s still a long way to go. We grow closer to a more understanding society every year, so let’s keep it up this April with lots of love and appreciation.

What we’re doing to celebrate

At Fizzy Whiz, we are not just celebrating Autism Awareness Month; we are celebrating each other.

One of the things we’re really excited about this month is the opportunity to use arts and crafts to make a difference. Did you know that creativity can be a fun and accessible way for people with autism or ASD to express themselves?

Creative fun is for everyone. No matter your age or ability, everyone can join in. From kids to grown-ups, get your hands messy and have a laugh (I know some of you don’t need any encouragement!).

In celebration of this month, we're really excited about the special release of our Autism Awareness Month Box Bundle, which includes four of our glitter dyes. The four shimmery dyes are green, blue, red, and yellow to represent the colours of the autism symbol.

We are also creating a 'come make with me' video where we will use these dyes to make a wax melt of the Autism puzzle symbol (keep an eye out for this!).

10% of all proceeds made from the Autism Awareness Box Bundle go straight to charity, helping those in need.

And if you think this isn’t enough, think again. We want to show our appreciation for hard-working parents and carers by including a soaking salts assessment in every bundle. This assessment is part of our wellness collection. Other items within the wellness collection include our 10 fragrance oils that promote calmness and relaxation, and can help with mood, energy, and depression.

How you can join in!

Ready to get involved? There are many ways you can celebrate this month.

    1. Be your lovely usual self and strive to be encouraging and compassionate to all. Knowing people’s favourite games, hobbies, or interests can help you find common ground and connect with individuals. Gentle prompts and redirections can also help people focus.

    2. Whether you’re creating DIY masterpieces with the kids or crafting alone, being creative can help anyone concentrate and destress. Puzzles and other sensory toys or activities are another incredibly way to centre attention on one activity.

Plus, don’t forget the rewarding feeling you get when you’ve finished a project and stand back to admire your work.

    3. With our special release Autism Awareness Box, get ready to have some fun and support a great cause. With these creative goodies, let your imagination run wild while contributing to charity and indulging in some much-deserved self-care.

    4. Join our friendly Facebook community, where we have thousands of like-minded members who you can share you tips and tricks, and celebrate Autism Awareness Month by sharing your story and spreading awareness

Do something special this Autism Awareness Month and join the conversation on how to help and make the world a better place for all using creativity as a starting point. Let’s celebrate the unique individuals who add sparkle to the world.
